In the blue of the Aegean Paradise; Bozcaada | Being a Tourist in Turkey

With its name in ancient times, Tenedos is a district connected to Çanakkale and the third largest island of Turkey after Gökçeada and Marmara Island. The natural vegetation of the island, which is under the influence of the Mediterranean climate, consists of scrub and gariga except the turkish pines and the arenicolous plants, which are seen locally.

The only settlement of the island where the population is low is the town of Bozcaada town, the center of the district in the same name. In the island which the population of the Greek was more than the population of the Turkish in the past, Turkish people have increased with the leaving of the Greeks.Viniculture, wine-making, fishing and tourism are the main occupations of the island’s inhabitants.

Where is Bozcaada?

Tenedos (Bozcaada); is located in the north of the Aegean Sea, about 20 kilometers southwest of the Hellespont (Çanakkale Boğazı), in front of the coast of Biga peninsula.

When to go to Bozcaada?

Bozcaada has a different climate due to its location. Despite being located in the Aegean Sea, Mediterranean climate is influential in the island. Moreover, because it is located at the exit of the Hellespont, the effect of the northern winds are quite felt in Bozcaada. The humidity is low due to the effect of the north winds, so the summers are cool and dry; Winter months are warm and rainy. While it is 35 degrees in the hottest month July, it is 7 degrees in the coldest month January. Considering the climate conditions, Bozcaada can be visited every period of the year. But if you are planning to visit the island for sea tourism, May – August is the most ideal period.

How to get to Bozcaada?

It is possible to reach to Bozcaada by ferries leaving from the Geyikli Ferry Quay in the district of Geyikli located in Çanakkale. You can also get to Bandirma by taking the sea buses between Yenikapı and Bandırma in about 2 hours and then following the Lapseki – Çanakkale highway to reach the Geyikli Ferry Quay.
